Therefore, nurses are beginning to develop explanations of medical procedures that are suited to the children's development. But, it can be difficult to understand the intellectual development of children with CP. Additionally, children with CP may have contracture and high muscle tone. Thus, it can be difficult to perform venipunctures on children with CP. There are currently no nursing studies in the literature about venipunctures for children with CP.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to clarify nurses’ thoughts on venipunctures for children with CP.Method: A qualitative descriptive design was employed for the study. Nine nurses were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide to explore nurses’ thoughts on venipunctures for children with CP. Qualitative inductive analysis was conducted to identify emerging themes and categories.  Findings: Three categories were formulated from nurses’ thoughts on this theme : 1) It is difficult to perform venipunctures on children with CP. But nurses thought that the procedure to take blood varied according to child’s condition.2) It is necessary that child and parent and nurses do their best. Nurses judge and adjust for each patient according to his or her ability for mental comprehension 3) There is a gap between the appropriate nurse’s attitude of venipunctures for the child and the realty of the venipunctures procedure.
