Eleven schools responded (response rate: 64.7%). The primary schools were located in 2 coastal areas, 3 hilly areas, 3 mountainous areas, 2 flat areas away from the coast, and 1 unknown area. School sizes were as follows: 3 with fewer than 100 pupils, 3 with 101-400 pupils, 2 with 401-600 pupils, 2 with more than 601 pupils, and 1 unknown. All primary schools had conducted evacuation drills based on the disaster scenario according to the characteristics of the area. Disaster education in all primary schools involved ‘one-hour complete lessons’; 8 schools conducted these lessons in all grades. Schools with fewer than 100 pupils conducted ‘lectures, etc. during evacuation drills’ starting from lower grades. The most common issue for disaster education was ‘securing time’ in 7 schools (63.6%). Contents of disaster education desired by nursing colleges included evacuation center experience, lectures by disaster medical assistance teams, and disaster support nurses.
